2023 Missoula County Pet Commissioner Contest
Crestilina the Crested Gecko was voted Missoula County's next pet commissioner. The commissioners presented her with a proclamation on Oct. 5, 2023.

Congratulations to Crestilina Silpat Silverman, the crested gecko, on becoming Missoula County's next pet commissioner!
The contest ran from Aug.1-31, with submissions open from Tuesday, Aug. 1, to Sunday, Aug. 20, and voting taking place from Monday, Aug. 21, to Thursday, Aug. 31. The winning pet, Crestilina the Crested Gecko, was recognized with an official county proclamation at the commissioners' public meeting on Oct. 5.
The 2022 Pet Commissioner was Gidge the Tripawd. While in office, he helped advocate for tripawds as well as for leashing in required areas, getting licensed with Animal Control, being a safe trick-or-treater on Halloween and being mindful and cautious with fireworks.
Crestilina plans to bring added visibility to reptiles and amphibians, and will advocate for responsible pet ownership as well as staying civically engaged.
Contest Guidelines
Eligibility: All Missoula County community members were eligible to submit entries and vote for other pets by liking their submission(s), and all pet species were welcome. Entries had to be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, and votes had to be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31.
Voting: To vote for a pet, you had to click the submission and hit the heart button in the bottom left corner to like the photo. You were welcome to leave a comment as well. (Note: Only likes were counted toward the number of votes for each entry). Voting opened Aug. 21 and closed Aug. 31.
Judging Process/Criteria: Staff from Missoula County reviewed all submitted entries and determined the submission with the most votes/likes as the winner, which was Crestilina Silpat Silverman, the crested gecko.
Finalist Notification: Missoula County has reached out to the winning pet's owner and proclamation plans are in progress!
Awards Presentation: The winner of the Missoula County Pet Commissioner Contest will be awarded with a:
- Missoula County Pet Commissioner proclamation
- A feature in the Missoula County Weekly e-newsletter
- Features on Missoula County social media channels
- And quite possibly some other media attention!

Cheddar and Jalapeno: two brave little goldfish, new to Missoula, re-homed from the County Fair, ready to lead
When we first found Cheddar and Jalapeno, they were living in a meager, small, dark, crowded Coleman cooler at the Ping Pong Game booth at the County Fair. We bought the fifty-ping-pong ball game package, and on ball number 47, we won. And then won again. These two fish were rescued from the cooler and very, very carefully brought home and introduced to their brand new new luxury accommodations, where they appear to thrive. They are already proving themselves to be beacons of peace, calm, and resilience. Given the opportunity to lead, they will help us all remember to appreciate the small things, search (and search and search some more) for joy, and no matter what, just keep on swimming.

Finn Shrader (Finnegan, Finny-boy, Finny-pants, etc)
Finn hails from West Africa, but has settled in to call Missoula his home now. An adventurous spirit who balances play with concern and compassion, he'll work hard as your county pet commisioner. An avid fan of sleeping, moth hunting, and local trout, elect Finny as your guy!

Buggy represents the Montana ethos with his independent spirit and love of hunting and nature. Buggy would love to be elected Pet Commissioner because he already thinks he's very important and would love others to recognize his brilliance.

Crestilina Silpat Silverman
Crestilina (the Crested gecko) was adopted by our family when she was just a tiny little gecko and very underweight. When we received her she was only 15 grams, now only a few months later she weighed 25 grams. She has learned that when she is treated well she will treat us well back, as she will do with Missoula (if she wins) some reasons she should win are the following, 1. Her late half brother (Jerremiah Constanzo Silverman) got second place in the contest just barely behind Gidge the Tripawd and Crestilina would finish what he started as the new commissioner. 2. I mean, her name and cuteness factor... thats an instant win for me. 3. Crestilina is a gecko and like her half brother Jeremiah, they are both reptiles and amphibians witch out of all of Missoula's pets that submitted, they were the only ones. I think for a change the dogs and cats are not the only good leaders 4. Crestilina is bipartisan, she will work on both sides of the aisle and will be open minded to any other ideas 4. Although she is still a juvenile she will grow along with Missoula and lead us into a bright future

Breezer
I’m Breezer, Glacier Ice Rink’s Safety Cat. I should be Pet Commissioner because I live and work in the heart of Midtown on the Missoula County Fairgrounds. I am admired by everyone, and I keep rink visitors safe by controlling pests (aka mice) and demonstrating rink rules. I allow people to pet me when I decide it’s okay and tolerate my coworkers dressing me up to celebrate holidays and promote rink events. As Pet Commissioner, I would advocate for more jobs for cats, encourage people to spay/neuter their pets and urge employers to allow afternoon nap time for their employees.
