Crestilina the Crested Gecko was voted Missoula County's next pet commissioner. The commissioners presented her with a proclamation on Oct. 5, 2023.

Congratulations to Crestilina Silpat Silverman, the crested gecko, on becoming Missoula County's next pet commissioner!


The contest ran from Aug.1-31, with submissions open from Tuesday, Aug. 1, to Sunday, Aug. 20, and voting taking place from Monday, Aug. 21, to Thursday, Aug. 31. The winning pet, Crestilina the Crested Gecko, was recognized with an official county proclamation at the commissioners' public meeting on Oct. 5.

The 2022 Pet Commissioner was Gidge the Tripawd. While in office, he helped advocate for tripawds as well as for leashing in required areas, getting licensed with Animal Control, being a safe trick-or-treater on Halloween and being mindful and cautious with fireworks.

Crestilina plans to bring added visibility to reptiles and amphibians, and will advocate for responsible pet ownership as well as staying civically engaged.

Contest Guidelines

Eligibility: All Missoula County community members were eligible to submit entries and vote for other pets by liking their submission(s), and all pet species were welcome. Entries had to be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, and votes had to be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31.

Voting: To vote for a pet, you had to click the submission and hit the heart button in the bottom left corner to like the photo. You were welcome to leave a comment as well. (Note: Only likes were counted toward the number of votes for each entry). Voting opened Aug. 21 and closed Aug. 31. 

Judging Process/Criteria: Staff from Missoula County reviewed all submitted entries and determined the submission with the most votes/likes as the winner, which was Crestilina Silpat Silverman, the crested gecko.

Finalist Notification: Missoula County has reached out to the winning pet's owner and proclamation plans are in progress!
