Volunteers needed for 2025 Heat Watch Campaign

Missoula County, the City of Missoula and Climate Smart Missoula are teaming up to launch a community-wide Heat Watch campaign, and community help is needed!

Volunteers are needed to collect temperature and humidity data during an upcoming heatwave this summer. The data gathered will be used to create detailed heat maps showing where extreme temperatures hit hardest in the County. This is crucial information that will help better support neighborhoods most vulnerable to extreme heat.

Projected Campaign Date: Saturday, July 19

Backup Date: Saturday, Aug. 2

Time Commitment: About 4 to 6 hours, including a short training session

Location: Routes will be assigned in or near your neighborhood, if possible

What Volunteers Will Do:

  • Drive or navigate a pre-scheduled route for three one-hour time blocks
  • Use a small, easy-to-operate sensor to collect heat and humidity data
  • Attend a one-hour virtual training session before the campaign day

What You’ll Need (Drivers):

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Auto insurance
  • Access to a vehicle
