The Missoula County commissioners approved the Lazy Acres RV Park in Seeley Lake at their public meeting on Aug. 10, 2023.

Lazy Acres RV Park is proposed as 14 acres to be subdivided into three lots and 70 RV park spaces. The currently vacant property is located on the east side of Highway 83 in Seeley Lake, near the Riverview Drive intersection. Open space consists of three parks total: two 0.94-acre parks along the western edge of the property and one 1.05-acre park in the southeast corner of the property. Several gravel roads would provide access to RV park spaces, with trails for pedestrians or bikes located within the park, as well. The Seeley Lake Water District would provide water, and there would be a shared drainfield along the eastern edge of the property.

Per Missoula County zoning, RV park proposals fall under subdivision review, which means County staff review aspects of a project that deviate from the subdivision regulations, commonly known as variances. The variances from the subdivision regulations requested by the applicant for this park are for:

  • One-way roads that do not meet the 26-foot standard
  • A road easement less than 60 feet wide
  • Trails that serve the RV park but are not alongside each interior road (two separate variances)
  • The width between RV park spaces being 25 feet rather than the required 30 feet

The developer brought this project to Missoula County a few years ago when the Seeley sewer project was moving forward. When the sewer project now stalled, the applicant decided to move forward with a project redesign that included a shared septic system.

The Missoula Consolidated Planning Board conducted a public hearing on this proposal at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at the City Council Chambers at 140 W. Pine St. in Missoula, and approved the item.

The Board of County Commissioners conducted a public hearing on this proposal at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, in the Sophie Moiese Room of the Missoula County Courthouse Annex, 200 West Broadway in Missoula, and also approved this item. Watch the full meeting on the County's YouTube channel.

I can't believe this may finally happen! Seeley Lake needs this so bad. Looks like a few kinks to work out. Other than that you have my support along with many others! Maybe this will move along the much needed sewer system and extra attention to our beautiful town.

The commissioner's hearing should be held in Seeley Lake. I believe the spacing between sites should be held at the normal 30 feet and that measures should be tested to ensure that the width of roadways take into account various emergency situations. I am on the whole questioning the wisdom of putting 72 Rvs in an already congested part of town without a written and tested evacuation plan for the town as a whole. SHOULD one or more fires develop within 10 miles of town, I believe Rv park occupants should be required to immediately evacuate so as not to cause possible problems for homeowners who might need to evacuate.
