Update: Renovations are expected to be completed August of 2026.
Missoula County was awarded $525,000 of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant-Economic Development (CDBG-ED) funding from the State of Montana to support the Missoula Children’s Theatre Roof Replacement Project.
The theater, located on the east edge of downtown Missoula in a historic district, plans to remove two original roof lantern skylights, replace the roof of the entire building and add solar panels to the roof. The roof and the skylights have reached the end of their service life, are leaking and causing significant damage to the integrity of the building. The theater is a nonprofit arts organization that serves children, youth and adults with quality and accessible performing art programming.
During June 2025, the County took public comment on the project’s Environmental Review, as required by the Montana Department of Commerce fund disbursement process.
Starting July 2026, renovations have begun at the Missoula Children’s Theater and is expected to be completed August of 2026.
