Missoula County conducted the Housing and Community Development Survey again in 2026 to help identify needs and gaps in services related to public infrastructure and facilities, economic development, and housing.

The survey opened on Monday, March 2, and closed on Tuesday, March 31. All responses are confidential and anonymous.

By completing this survey, residents will help Missoula County identify needs and gaps in services related to public infrastructure and facilities, economic development, and housing. The feedback will inform Missoula County’s grant acquisition efforts and is the first step in determining how to prioritize applications for U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME).

Examples of projects that may qualify for funding include:

  • Temporary housing facilities, such as homeless or domestic violence shelters.
  • Rehabilitation of owner-occupied homes with critical health and safety deficiencies.
  • Improvements to community water and wastewater systems.
  • Assisting businesses with job creation, job retention and job training through low-interest loans.

Please note that federal funding is not guaranteed for the priorities and needs listed in the survey.

Survey results were presented in person during a county commissioners’ public hearing meeting on Thursday, April 23. You can watch the meeting recording on the Missoula County YouTube channel. (survey presentation begins at approx. 2:44:15)
