For the first time in more than a decade, Missoula County raised land use fees assessed to development applications. Missoula County Community and Planning Services assesses land use fees to applicants to cover the cost of review of new construction and development applications related to zoning, subdivision, floodplain, etc. Without these fees, local taxpayers would cover these costs.
The County adopted the proposed fee increases primarily in response to inflationary increases to the current costs of County project review, as well as zoning compliance permit fees to address administration of new provisions in the recently adopted County zoning code.

I support the proposed fee increases. In particular, I think they are necessary to ensure that the County's staff is appropriately compensated and retained. Keeping these processes staffed well will serve developers and the wider community, and reduce costs in the long run by ensuring timely and accurate review by these professionals. I like the idea of annual increases based on inflation so as to make these increases more incremental in the future and improve predictability. Thank you.
