Let us know what you think about changing the boundaries of the West Valley Community Council and ask any questions you may have.
The Missoula County commissioners are considering changes to the boundaries for the West Valley Community Council in the Frenchtown area. The current boundaries align with voter precincts, so they do not include some members of the Frenchtown community. Residents brought this to the commissioners' attention in February, and the community council sent a letter in May requesting them to consider changing the boundaries to align with Frenchtown School district No. 40 to be more inclusive of all community members. (This was previously not an option since the Frenchtown School district overlapped with the Evaro-Finley-O’Keefe Community Council boundaries. That council was dissolved in June.)
Maps of the current and proposed boundaries are available under the Documents section. There is no fiscal impact to this proposed boundary change.
The commissioners will open the hearing on the proposed boundary changes at their Thursday, Oct. 3, public meeting. The meeting will take place at 2 p.m. in the Sophie Moiese Room at the Missoula County Courthouse and virtually via Microsoft Teams. The agenda and information on how to join virtually will be available at missoula.co/bccmeetings. The commissioners will accept public comment until their meeting on Thursday, Oct. 24, when they will close the hearing and vote on the proposed changes.
On Oct. 24, the commissioners approved a resolution to change the boundaries of the West Valley Community Council. The West Valley Community Council boundary will be redrawn to align with the boundaries of the Frenchtown School District #40. You can watch the full meeting on the County’s YouTube channel.
